Serving jungle bugs can be a lot of fun at lunch time and make an ordinary hot dog into a safari adventure!  Your kids will have a blast gobbling up the creepy crawlies!

Kids can help prepare these hot dog bugs, however a responsible adult will need to boil them.

What you need:

  • Hot dogs
  • Spaghetti and/or fettuccine noodles.  We used whole wheat angel hair and spinach fettuccine.

Step 1

Cut the hot dogs into thirds.

Step 2

Pierce noodles through the hot dog to create the crawly legs

Step 3

Cook according to package directions.  To ensure both the hot dog and noodles are fully cooked use directions for longest cooking time.

Step 4

Have a little fun with the bugs.  We positioned them on the plates as if they were trying to gobble up the clementines.

I found my belief in the importance of pretend play through two paths. First, during my childrens’ formative years, I developed an appreciation for crafting, games and dress-up as I saw my kids confidence grow as they succeeded on their imaginary adventures.
