Princess Tales from Around the World: Activity

Ever wonder what fairy tales sound like from other parts of the world? This is a great activity!

Level Of Difficulty: EasyMediumDifficult

Recommended Age: 3 to 8 years

Ever wonder what fairy tales sound like from other parts of the world? This is a great activity! Read alternative versions of Cinderella and have your princess compare and contrast each story. On a map of the world, find the countries or geographic areas where each of the Cinderella stories comes from. This can lead to great discussions about each country or region. Add to the fun by trying a yummy treat inspired by each ethnic region. You’ll have a great time and learn a ton too!

This is just a short list of stories I found at my local library.  There are many more available.

  • Glass Slipper Gold Sandal by Paul Fleischman
  • The Egyptian Cinderella by Shirley Climo
  • The Golden Sandal: A Middle Eastern Cinderella Story by Hickox, Rebecca.  (Iraq)
  • Yeh-Shen: A cinderella Story from China by Ai-Ling Louie
  • The Way Meat Loves Salt: A Cinderella Tale from the Jewish Tradition. by Nina Jaffe (Poland)
  • Steel, Flora Annie. Tattercoats: An Old English Tale. (British Isle)
  • Sootface: An Ojibwa Cinderella Story.  by Robert D San Souci (native American)
  • Little Gold Star / Estrellita de oro: A Cinderella Cuento Retold in Spanish and English.  by Joe Hayes (Mexico)
